Yummy Hypno Mummies, Midwife Led Hypnobirthing Courses

Childbirth can, and should be one of the most empowering and positive events in your life – one you want to remember fondly and look back on with positive memories. Yet so many women build up fear and anticipation of their impending birth until they cause themselves to suffer from extreme levels of stress, worry and anxiety which is neither good for them or their growing baby inside them. However, with the help of our hypnobirthing courses, the birth of your baby can be a calmer, more comfortable, relaxed, natural and rewarding experience, one where you are in control and therefore need less intervention, help and support from others. You deserve special care as you make this exciting and unique journey into motherhood with positive anticipation and confidence.

Our Hypnobirthing courses teach you and your husband, partner or birthing partner the techniques you both need to achieve this goal - we will teach you everything you need to know to have the birth of your choice.

Giving birth without fear, stress and anxiety is not only better for you but also better for your baby. By eliminating pain killing medication and opiates, the Hypnobirth baby is born drug free, creating a more alert and calmer baby. Greater satisfaction about the birth is felt by not only the moms, but also by the dads as well, leading to a greater sense of belonging and security during the labor and birth for both parents.
Hypnobirthing helps to reduce feeling of anxiety and fear and reduces stress levels dramatically. Labours are often shorter in length and there is less need for medical intervention. Because Hypnobirthing mothers are more relaxed, have gentle births and bond with their babies in a very special way, they are also far less likely to suffer from postnatal depression and learn to develop an inner sense of self confidence and strength as a mother.

What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a combination of learning to go in to a deep relaxation at the same time as using breathing techniques. This helps you to cope better with the pain experienced during labour and childbirth. Hypnobirthing also gives your partner a great role to play and allows him to fully participate in the birth instead of feeling helpless as many men do in the birthing room.

Will I lose control?
You will  learn how to release any fears and anxieties you may currently have about giving birth, and how to overcome previous traumatic births you may have had in the past
Hypnobirthing allows you experience the pleasures of birth rather than the horrific ordeals you may have heard from others You will learn how to put yourself in control of your birth and work with your midwife rather than blindly turning your birthing experience over to her. Hypnobirthing allows you to experience birth in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, so that the birthing muscles of your body can relax and gently open just as nature intended them to.And no you will not lose control! - please don't worry
Hypnobirthing doesn't mean you'll be in a trance or asleep. You'll be able to chat and behave as normal and you’ll be completely aware of everything going on around you. You will be totally relaxed, but fully in control of your mind and body

Why is a natural birth better for me and my baby?
Increased Mobility
Mothers who birth naturally can move freely, go to the bathroom, walk and change positions throughout labour as and when they need to. The manageable pain during the birthing process serves a purpose by guiding the mother to seek certain positions. For example, if your back hurts, you will naturally change your position off your back which will help to turn your baby and allow quicker descent through the birth canal. Having back pain is one sign that you baby might be lying backwards and needs to turn

Shorter Labours
Since you can feel your body's reflexes in natural childbirth, you can breathe your baby down more easily and quickly. In fact studies have shown that getting an epidural actually prolongs the birthing time.

Quicker Recovery Postnatally
Mothers often describe that their recovery after a natural childbirth was faster and easier since they could get up and walk and shower much sooner than if they had had drugs. Usually they eat right away, their appetite is normal and they are able to move much more freely

Healthy Baby
Endorphins secreted during a natural childbirth have been found in the placenta and umbilical cord. This may serve a purpose to help the baby adjust to life outside as well as make the journey more comfortable for baby.Research has shown that in mothers who have natural childbirth, babies are more alert and show more interest in pre breastfeeding behaviours such as sucking and massaging the mother's breasts, as well as the actual length of time they spend nursing within the first 90 minutes.

Although having a natural birth is far more beneficial for both mother and baby, there will inevitably be occasions when having a caesarean is the best option for you for various reasons. You will still be able to benefit from the advantages of hypnobirthing and should not feel disappointed that you needed medical intervention.
Can't I just take drugs and not feel any pain?
Of course you can - it is totally your choice, however, your body will take a lot longer to recover rather than experiencing a natural birth. Any drugs that your body ingests will also effect your baby. Using medication is sometimes absolutely necessary but should not be your first point of call. Hypnobirthing can help you have a natural, comfortable birthing experience but some births will need medical intervention which is out of anyone’s control.

Does my partner / birthing partner need to attend the class?
The birthing partner has a very important role to play in the birth of your baby and it is extremely beneficial it he or she were to attend the classes. However it is not mandatory and mums are most welcome on their own or with a  friend. Mums to be will be provided with a 'Birthing Partner Factsheet' and will be encouraged to discuss this with their birthing partners in order to help and support the birthing experience. Birthin Partner techniques include light touch massage, anchors, visual prompts and other important techniques.

When is the best time to do a Hypnobirthing Course?
The earlier you do the course, the longer you have to practise the daily relaxations and visualisations and so around 24 -26 weeks onwards is ideal. However a Hypnobirthing course can be taken as late as 39 weeks and you will still gain lots of benefits from it. It is never too early and never too late!

If I do a Hypnobirthing Course will it guarantee me a pain free birth?
Nothing in life is guaranteed. There are several factors which can effect the birth that are out of my control. However, the hypnobirthing figures show that around 70% of Hypnobirthing mums do not need any form of pain relief. Nearly all the mums in this category simply don't experience any pain - just pressure. Around a further 20-25% only require something mild, like gas and air.The remaining 5-10% usually fall into what we call 'special circumstances', where medical intervention is required. However, the Hypnobirthing mums still tell us that Hypnobirthing really helped - even if they were induced, or ended up with a caesarean.

Is hypnobirthing good for my baby?
Hynobirthing is excellent for the baby. Your baby feels exactly what you feel so everytime you become relaxed and calm because of the hypnotherapy, then your baby will be enjoying the calm sensations too and benefit from a drug free labour. Your baby is far less likely to become distressed during labour and this greatly reduces the likely hood of you needing a forceps delivery or caesarian section too.

What if I do the class and then I'm told I need a caesarean?
You will still be able to use your relaxation techniques to stay calm and focussed if you need a caesarean or any other kind of medical intervention. Nerves and stress can impact the mother's ability to take anesthesia and impact her surgery. Using the breathing techniques can help facilitate the body accepting the anesthesia easily. Breathing deeply can be a quick way to calm yourself and to be consciously present in the moment without stress.
